Who are the Berbils?

Not everything in Third Earth is danger and villainy: among the most endearing creatures in all of ThunderCats are the Ro-Bear Berbils, or simply the Berbils. They are a species of small robotic bears—similar to mechanical teddy bears—peaceful, hard-working and kind-hearted. They were the first true friends that the cats did when they arrived in their new world, and their contribution was so important that without them the history of the ThunderCats would have been very different. In fact, it was they who helped raise the mythical Cat's Lair fortress.

History and Origin

The Berbils come from the planet Ro-Bear. A long time ago, their ship crashed on Third Earth and, instead of trying to leave, they settled there and founded their own village: the Village of the Berbils. His debut in the series occurs in the episode titled precisely "Berbils", he third episode from the classic series, broadcast on September 11, 1985 and written by Leonard Starr.

In that episode, the Berbils—led by the kind Ro-Bear Bill— they capture at first Lion-O already Snarf, but it soon becomes clear that they are "the good guys." The cats discover a gentle race of farmers and builders, and in return help them defend themselves against their natural enemies: the Giantors and the Trollogs. From that moment on, the Berbils become faithful and recurring allies of the ThunderCats throughout the series.
